Pareek appointed chief of urology for Lifespan hospitals

PROVIDENCE – Lifespan Corp. has appointed Dr. Gyan Pareek as chief of urology in the department of surgery at Lifespan hospitals and president of Brown Urology Inc.

“I’m humbled and honored to be appointed as chief of urology at an academic institution where I have spent my entire career,” Pareek said. “We’re also lucky because we have the greatest faculty and staff in urology. I look forward to building on our excellence in patient care, research and education, and continuing to represent a program that has been recognized as one of the best in the country.”

Pareek joined Lifespan and Brown University in 2005, as a professor of surgery and medicine at Brown’s Warren Alpert Medical School. He is an expert in robotic surgery and in 2006 led the team that performed the first robotic surgery in southeastern New England. He runs The Miriam Hospital’s Kidney Stone Center, is co-director of the Minimally Invasive Urology Institute, and he oversees New England’s only Endourological-Society-recognized fellowship program.

Previously, he was president of the Rhode Island Urological Society, board member of the New England American Urological Association and member of the Rhode Island Health Commissioner’s Advisory Committee on Health Care Cost.

Murray Beardsley professor and chairman of the department of surgery at the Warren Alpert Medical School. “He is actively involved in graduate medical education and serves on the admissions committee for Warren Alpert Medical School. Over the years, he’s received multiple Dean’s Excellence Awards in Teaching, along with The Miriam Hospital’s 2019 Riesman Family Excellence in Teaching Award.”

A graduate from St. George’s University School of Medicine, Pareek completed his residency at New York’s Lenox Hill Hospital and his Minimally Invasive Urology fellowship at the University of Wisconsin. He is an alumnus of Harvard University’s Surgical Leadership program and received an honorary master’s degree from Brown University.

“Dr. Pareek’s commitment to high-quality patient care, research and teaching, as well as his clinical expertise and leadership, are tremendous benefits to our patients and the community,” said Arthur Sampson, interim CEO and president at Lifespan. “We are fortunate to have Dr. Pareek in this role.”
