WARWICK – There were 4.3 million passengers enplaned and deplaned at T.F. Green Airport in 2018, a 9.2 percent increase from 2017’s 3.9 million passengers, according to the most recent traffic data from the R.I. Airport Corp.
The carrier that accounted for the most passengers enplaned and deplaned for the year was Southwest Airlines at 1.6 million passengers, or 38.2 percent of all traffic. The second largest carrier by passenger traffic was American Airlines at just over 1 million passengers, or 23.3 percent of all passengers.
The largest nominal increase in passengers year to year was for Frontier Airlines, increasing by 233,326 passengers to a 2018 total of 379,401.
Three discount airlines, Frontier, Allegiant Airlines and Norwegian Airlines, together saw a 146.2 percent increase in traffic to 638,430 passengers, 14.9 percent of the traffic at T.F. Green in 2018.
The amount of cargo that moved through the airport in 2018 totaled 59.2 million pounds, a 36 percent increase year over year, largely from since-relocated shipping operations related to Amazon.com Inc.
In December, there were 310,308 passengers enplaned and deplaned, a 10.4 percent year-over-year decline. The decline was substantially attributable to a 22,222-passenger decline in Frontier Airline traffic to 16,662 passengers.
