The journey from a pastime to a home-based business has been swift for Rhode Island Natural Soap Co.
Entrepreneur Elizabeth Sylvia started her business in November, after a few years of tinkering with recipes and watching online tutorials.
Since then, she’s moved her product through a website and sold at shows and at the Providence Flea, a popular outdoor market. A spare bedroom in her Lincoln home has been transformed into a “soap lab.”
Along the way, she’s created a business plan, to help guide her purchases and sales.
Her product lines include a series of cold-pressed organic and natural soaps, which are plant-based. Products include shampoo bars, facial bars and bath bombs. She’s working on a formula for liquid soaps. In April, a goat-milk dog shampoo bar was launched.
“It’s come in very handy that I went to Johnson & Wales [University] and studied business management,” she said.
