PCTA wins in national Get Schooled challenge

PROVIDENCE – The Providence Career and Technical Academy has been named one of two national winners of the Get Schooled 2014 National Attendance Challenge.
For the first time in Get Schooled history, there are two national winners; PCTA tied with Maritime Industries Academy in Baltimore, Md., which also earned the maximum 1,000 points. This fall, 81 schools across the country participated.
To compete, students must achieve daily attendance and complete educational activities to score points. The academy earned the maximum 1,000 points and increased their attendance rate. The baseline attendance rate for September-December 2013 was 89 percent, while this year’s rate over the same period rose to 92.04 percent.
Student ambassadors led the effort in their schools, working with school staff and administrators to create fun and motivational campaigns around increasing attendance. •
