Raise a glass

The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network will hold a wine-tasting benefit, titled “Raise a Glass for Hope,” on Friday, Aug. 23, from 6-8 p.m. at Gasbarro’s Wines, 361 Atwells Ave., Providence. The event will feature eight to 10 varietals of wine and hors d’oeuvres. One ticket includes one Lights of Hope bag to be sent to Washington, D.C., in September. Tickets cost $35 and proceeds will support the society’s efforts to reduce the burden of cancer on patients and their families. An anti-gala

Newport Art House will hold its (Anti) Gala on Friday, Aug. 23, from 7-11 p.m. at The Bellevue House, 304 Bellevue Ave., Newport. The event will be a celebration of local art and artists in a unique setting. Tickets start at $100 and sponsorship opportunities are available. Proceeds raised will support ongoing operations at Newport Art House, which showcases and promotes contemporary art in Newport County. The Rhode Island chapter of the American Firefighters Motorcycle Club will hold a bike run benefiting Special Olympics Rhode Island and the Pink Heals Cancer Fund on Saturday, Aug. 24, beginning at 11 a.m. at A&W Restaurant, 460 Putnam Pike, Smithfield. Registration begins at 9:45 a.m., with kick stands up at 11 a.m. The ride will run through the Providence Firefighters Union Hall, 92 Printery St., Providence. The event will also include food and live music at the PKD Music Festival. Charity Bike Run T-shirts will be available for purchase. Riders cost $30 and passengers cost $50. I got Bingo!

Raymour & Flanigan Furniture & Mattresses will hold its Bingo Night to Celebrate Women fundraising event on Tuesday, Aug. 27, from 5:30-8 p.m. at the store, 650 Bald Hill Road, Warwick. The event, which will have eight rounds of bingo, will introduce a candidate for the Miss Teen Rhode Island USA Pageant, as well as collect donations for McAuley House, a local nonprofit that assists women and families in Rhode Island who are less fortunate. On the rise

The 2019 New Bedford RiseFest, a collection of musical acts to perform in support of community services, will take place Sunday, Sept. 1, beginning at noon at The Vault Music Hall & Pub at Greasy Luck, 791 Purchase St., New Bedford. The performances will range from acoustic to electric. Tickets cost $20 in advance and $25 at the door. Proceeds raised will support Rise Up for Homes, which offers assistance to keep the emergency overflow shelter at Sister Rose’s House open during cold winter nights and inclement weather conditions. Foster Parrots Ltd., an exotic wildlife sanctuary, will hold its 12th annual Fall Fundraiser Extravaganza on Saturday, Sept. 7, from noon to 6:30 p.m. at the sanctuary, 87 Woodville Alton Road, Hopkinton. The event will feature food, live music, an open bar, raffles and silent actions, vendor displays and a vegetarian buffet dinner.
