PROVIDENCE – A former nursing home and an adjacent laundry building overlooking Dexter Field in the West End could be renovated and redeveloped into a 31-unit apartment building.
The project would include the renovation of the former Park View Center for Rehabilitation and Healthcare into 12 units, and new construction of a 19-unit multifamily building, according to a plan filed with the city.

Forty-four parking spaces would be provided on-site.
The owners are Parkview Realty and Stepping Stone Partners LLC. The manager is Mark Van Noppen. The project site, at 31-45 Parade St., overlooks the park that is the center of the historic Armory District.
The project has received preliminary approval from the Providence Historic District Commission and a recommendation for a zoning change from the City Plan Commission that would allow the higher density. The existing R-3 zone does not allow multifamily units, according to a planning department overview.
In its June 19 meeting, the City Plan Commission gave preliminary approval to the master plan for the project.
The Providence City Council will determine the zoning change. Its Committee on Ordinances was scheduled to hold a public hearing on the project Wednesday.
