Based in Portsmouth, the Prospering Christians are in the process of interviewing for more board members for a non-profit corporation, and seeking an office and volunteer staff. The group also has plans to establish a church on Aquidneck Island and to expand an after school arts and crafts program which offers piano lessons to students and adults.

The group currently meets on Facebook in a group called, the Prospering Christians. The group has been receiving weekly insights on managing their money more responsibly since 2008. The Prospering Christians have held weekly Internet Radio broadcasts Wednesday mornings at 7:00 am at http://www.blogtalkradio.com/gailcav. The lessons will be available on CD soon.

Several months ago, a couple representing the Campus Crusade for Christ in Jessore, Bangladesh, joined the group with a burden to reach out to more people in their country with the Gospel message. The Prospering Christians agreed to partner with them in building a church and worship school for this purpose. Additionally, the group will offer assistance in organizing an agricultural business in order to pay for church expenses, providing food supplements to malnourished children, and ministering to the families. The group has named the project the Mission to Bangladesh.

Bangladesh is one of the poorest countries in the world. Because of natural disasters such as the tsunami in 1991 and flooding which occurs every June to October due to the melting of ice on the nearby Himalayan Mountains, children were separated from their parents, resulting in many of them living on the streets. The flooding causes the spread of diseases and hunger.

Since the announcement of the economic crisis in 2008, the Prospering Christians have been studying the Bible relative to finances and they have been attempting to change the way they handle money. Many grew up without instructions on how to handle money. The group comprises people from all over the world, from all walks of life and will be offering teachings locally on managing personal and business finances. People from any church may join the group. Anyone interested in going on a mission trip to Bangladesh or interested in attending the classes may contact the group’s founder, Gail Cavanaugh at 401-380-7850.
