Providence City Council to launch e-newsletter

PROVIDENCE – The City Council later today plans to launch its first electronic newsletter, The Docket.

The newsletter is to be available via the council’s Web site, www.providenceri.com/CityCouncil, where a box at the bottom of the page now invites readers to sign up for the newsletter. Subscription information also will be included in each issue, the council said in its announcement last week.

“The Council was motivated to create and publish The Docket by our belief in the importance to our democracy of regular, frank communication between government and the people,” Council President John J. Lombardi said in the news release. “We are also committed to making optimum use of information technology, and to recognizing the critical roles it plays in 21st century public and private life.”

The Docket will include features, editorials, special events listings and ward-by-ward news, the council said.

Its debut issue – Volume One, Issue One – is to feature articles on the city’s recent Bird Flu Preparedness Conference, the opening of the new GTECH world headquarters, the dedication of the Ruth Williams Memorial, news from Wards 7 and 12, and a note from the council president.
