PROVIDENCE – A citywide parking ban has been issued for Sunday from 2 to 6 a.m. for the first snowfall of the season, the Providence Office of the Mayor announced Friday.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory and currently predicts total snow accumulations of 3 to 6 inches between 4 a.m. Saturday through 7 a.m. Sunday. The NWS also said a few spots in the central hills of Massachusetts and Rhode Island could see 7 to 8 inches.

“Residents with overnight parking passes are advised that they cannot park on the street during the duration of the citywide parking ban,” the city alert said. “All vehicles parked on the street in violation of the citywide parking ban will be ticketed and towed to ensure that roadways can be plowed.”

The city also announced all Providence recreation centers will be closed Saturday due to the impending storm.
