
PROVIDENCE – The Providence metropolitan area ranked poorly, scoring just 13 out of 100 on the 2017 Discretionary Income Report, released by Trove.
Providence’s workers were estimated to have an average of $2,031 in discretionary income after basic expenses and estimated taxes were taken out of the average salary.

The city’s estimated average salary in the report was $50,999, with an expected tax of $12,063 and a basic expense cost of $36,903.
The study also listed the Providence metro’s top jobs for discretionary income as sociology teachers, criminal justice teachers, benefit managers, teachers and instructors (other), and chiropractors.
Jobs were graded based on comparisons to similar jobs in other cities, not solely based the nominal disposable income.
The Providence metro area’s lowest ranked careers compared to other cities in the United States were supervisors of housekeepers, maintenance workers (machinery), captains and pilots of water vessels, drywall installers and computer network specialists.
