PROVIDENCE – The nonseasonally adjusted unemployment rate in the Providence-Warwick-Fall River metropolitan area was 3.4% in November, an increase from 3.3% one month prior but still down from 4% in November 2021, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics said Thursday.
For Rhode Island and the nation, the unemployment rate in November was 3.4%. The BLS said Thursday that of the 389 metro areas in the county, only 150 had jobless rates below 3%, while two had rate higher than 10%.
There were 23,976 individuals unemployed in the Providence metro area in November, down from 29,457 one year prior. The labor force in the area totaled 705,893, a decline from 710,362 one year prior. There were 603,600 individuals on nonfarm payrolls in the metro area in November, a 2.5% increase year over year.
Other local markets:
In the New Bedford metro area in November, the unemployment rate was 4.5%, an increase from 4.3% one month prior and a decline from 5.8% in November 2022.
The unemployment rate in the Norwich-New London, Conn.-Westerly metro area was 3.7% in November, a decrease from 4.2% one month prior and 4.8% in November 2021.
