Purvis wins $2.3M contract to upgrade FDNY call boxes

MIDDLETOWN – Purvis Systems Inc., a provider of information technology systems and services to the public safety, emergency management and defense industries, has been awarded a $2.3 million contract to modernize the New York City Fire Department’s citywide fire and police call-box system.
The FDNY’s Emergency Reporting System/Electro Mechanical Alarm Display Systems (ERS/EMADS) is “a critical connection between New York’s citizens and the city’s emergency services,” Purvis said in a statement.
The box-modernization plan calls for upgrading the electronics in the city’s older call boxes, some of which are more than 30 years old, thus “strengthening the system’s connection to the city’s network infrastructure without replacing the existing call-box enclosures,” Purvis said.
The new systems design includes redundant modular components to minimize downtime and repair time, and incorporates off-the-shelf and digital signal processing technologies to provide cost-effective filtering and signal conditioning, the company said. The production version will include a face plate, Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant fire and police button flaps, a speaker and microphone, and electronics compatible with both legacy and future ERS systems.
“We are very pleased to have the opportunity to extend what has been a very positive partnership between Purvis Systems and the FDNY,” John Desposito, the company’s president, said in a statement. “We are fully dedicated to delivering on all of our commitments to the FDNY, with a unique understanding of the needs of first responders in New York City and across the nation.”
Purvis Systems Inc., a privately held provider of engineering and management services, has more than 135 employees at its headquarters in Port Jefferson Station, N.Y., and offices in Middletown, New York City, Virginia Beach and Phoenix. Additional information is available at www.purvis.com.
