PROVIDENCE – The average price of self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline in Rhode Island declined 2 cents this week to average $2.51 per gallon, 2 cents below the national average, according to AAA Northeast Monday.
Prices for regular gas ranged 31 cents this week, from $2.39 to $2.70 per gallon.
One year ago, prices for regular gasoline in the Ocean State were 20 cents lower at $2.31 per gallon.
“Rhode Island, for the moment, is bucking the national trend of increasing prices,” said Lloyd Albert, AAA Northeast senior vice president of public and government affairs, in a statement. “However, with crude oil prices up almost 5 percent last week, we may quickly see this trend reverse itself and produce slightly higher prices at local pumps.”
Midgrade gasoline in Rhode Island averaged $2.79 this week, with prices ranging from $2.59 to $2.99 per gallon.
Premium gasoline averaged $2.97 this week, ranging from $2.68 to $3.18 per gallon.
Diesel fuel averaged $3.01 this week, ranging from $2.91 to $3.05 per gallon.
Prices of regular gasoline in Massachusetts increased 3 cents this week to $2.51 per gallon. One year ago, prices in Massachusetts were 26 cents lower at $2.25 per gallon.
Midgrade gasoline in Massachusetts averaged $2.75 per gallon, ranging from $2.58 to $2.99 per gallon.
Premium gasoline in the Bay State averaged $2.94 this week, ranging from $2.68 to $3.29 per gallon.
Diesel fuel in Massachusetts averaged $2.90 per gallon, ranging from $2.69 to $3.01 per gallon.
