R.I. gas prices rise 2 cents this week, Mass. up 1 cent

PROVIDENCE –  Prices for self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline in Rhode Island rose 2 cents this week to $2.26 per gallon, bringing gas prices in line with the national average. Rhode Island gas prices are 3 cents higher than they were in the state one year ago.

Prices for regular unleaded gas in the Ocean State now range 31 cents, from $2.10 to $2.40.

The average price for self-serve, midgrade unleaded gasoline this week is $2.55 per gallon, while self-serve premium is selling for $2.73 per gallon, ranging from $2.53 to $2.86 per gallon. Diesel is priced at $2.47 per gallon.

“This small price increase follows a period of solid demand and some declines in the glut of crude oil that have kept prices low so far this summer,” said Lloyd Albert, senior vice president of public and government affairs for AAA Northeast.

Prices for self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline in Massachusetts rose this week by 1 cent to $2.19 per gallon, 7 cents lower than the national average and 2 cents higher year over year. Prices in Massachusetts range 36 cents from a low of $2.06 to $2.41.

The average price for self-serve, midgrade unleaded gasoline in Massachusetts this week is $2.45 per gallon, ranging from $2.26 to $2.70 per gallon. The average price for self-serve, premium unleaded gas in the Bay State is $2.62 per gallon, ranging from $2.40-$2.96 per gallon. Diesel is selling for $2.46 per gallon.
