PROVIDENCE – The price of self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline in Rhode Island increased 7 cents to average $2.82 per gallon this week, 1 cent above the national average, according to AAA Northeast Monday.
Prices ranged 33 cents, from $2.66 per gallon to a high of $2.99 per gallon.
Last year at this time, prices in Rhode Island were 48 cents lower at $2.34 per gallon.
- Midgrade gas averaged $3.11 per gallon, ranging from $3.04 to $3.29 per gallon.
- Premium gas averaged $3.28 this week, ranging from $2.89 to $3.41 per gallon.
- Diesel fuel averaged $3.16 per gallon, ranging from $3.05 to $3.29 per gallon.
“Crude oil prices topped $68 a barrel today, rising 2.9 percent and hitting a three-year high,” said Lloyd Albert, AAA Northeast senior vice president of public and government affairs, in a statement. “That spike in crude oil, combined with increased demand as the summer travel season approaches, is sharply pushing prices at the pump.”
Prices of regular gas in Massachusetts increased 8 cents this week to average $2.75 per gallon. Prices ranged 40 cents from $2.59 to $2.99 per gallon.
Last year at this time, prices were 43 cents lower at $2.32 per gallon.
- Midgrade gas averaged $2.99 per gallon this week, ranging from $2.79 to $3.39 per gallon.
- Premium gas averaged $3.16 per gallon this week, ranging from $2.91 to $3.49 per gallon.
- Diesel fuel in Massachusetts averaged $3.05 per gallon this week, ranging from $2.98 to $3.24 per gallon.
