PROVIDENCE – The price of self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline declined 2 cents this week in Rhode Island to average $2.93 per gallon, 4 cents above the national average, according to AAA Northeast Monday.

Prices in the Ocean State ranged 35 cents from a low of $2.74 to a high of $3.09 per gallon. Last year at this time, prices were 64 cents lower at $2.29 per gallon.

“The next factor that may influence gas prices is this Friday’s OPEC meeting in Vienna,” said Lloyd Albert, AAA Northeast senior vice president of public and government affairs, in a statement. “The OPEC nations, plus Russia will discuss increasing oil production, which would likely decrease crude oil prices and encourage cheaper gas prices.”

  • Premium gas averaged $3.32 per gallon this week, ranging from $3.09 to $3.52 per gallon.
  • Diesel fuel averaged $3.17 per gallon, ranging from $3.04 to $3.35 per gallon.
