PROVIDENCE – The average price of self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline in Rhode Island increased 2 cents week to week to $3.02 per gallon, 11 cents lower than the national average, according to AAA Northeast Tuesday.
The average price of regular gas in Rhode Island one year prior was $2.11 per gallon.
“Higher crude oil prices and robust demand for gasoline – reinforced by record road travel during the July Fourth weekend – are pushing pump prices higher,” said Lloyd Albert, senior vice president of public and government affairs for AAA Northeast, in a statement. “We had hoped that global crude production increases would bring some relief at the pump this month, but weekend OPEC [Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries] negotiations fell through with no agreement reached, and now crude prices are poised to surge to a seven-year high.”
- Midgrade gas in the Ocean State averaged $3.32 per gallon this week.
- Premium gas averaged $3.58 per gallon.
- Diesel fuel averaged $3.12 per gallon.
In Massachusetts, the average price of regular gas increased 2 cents week to week to $3.01 per gallon. The average price in the state one year prior was $2.10 per gallon.
- Midgrade gas in Massachusetts averaged $3.28 per gallon.
- Premium gas averaged $3.51 per gallon.
- Diesel fuel averaged $3.14 per gallon.
