PROVIDENCE – Sport betting took in the most revenue in April of any month, despite a dip in the amount bet at Rhode Island casinos for the month, according to the R.I. Lottery Wednesday.
Bettors in Rhode Island wagered $16.9 million for the month while the payout to betters was $14.9 million, leaving sports book revenue, the amount of money wagered and not paid back to bettors, at just under $2 million.
The largest amount bet of any month since sports betting was launched in late November was in March, with gamblers betting $23.6 million on sports in Rhode Island, with a payout of $1.5 million.
The state’s take from the revenue will be 51%, following the subtraction of operating fees. The other 49% of the revenue will be split among the casinos and the company that sets the odds and betting-lines, William Hill.
Betting at Twin River Casino Hotel had far outpaced betting at Tiverton Casino Hotel as of April, at $77.1 million bet and $16.9 million bet, respectively.
As of the end of April, sports betting revenue to the state, the casinos and William Hill had been a combined $3.8 million, with bettors wagering $94 million and winning $90.1 million.
