R.I. construction employment ticks up 1.6% in Sept.

PROVIDENCE – Construction employment in Rhode Island increased 1.6% year over year in September, seasonally adjusted, the third-highest growth rate in New England, according to the Associated General Contractors of America Friday.

Rhode Island’s growth rate ranked No. 34 in the nation. New Hampshire ranked highest in New England for its construction-employment growth rate at 7.8% year over year. Nevada ranked highest in the country with a 12.3% increase year over year.

Rhode Island construction employment at the end of September was 19,600.

New England construction-employment stats:

  • New Hampshire: Increased 7.8% year over year to 29,000 jobs.
  • Maine: Increased 3.1% year over year to 29,900 jobs.
  • Rhode Island: Increased 1.6% year over year to 19,600 jobs.
  • Massachusetts: Declined 0.8% year over year to 156,600 jobs.
  • Connecticut: Declined 3.1% year over year to 56,900 jobs.
  • Vermont: Declined 6% year over year to 14,200 jobs.
