R.I. COVID-19 cases rise by 1,155, with 20 more deaths

PROVIDENCE – Cases of COVID-19 in Rhode Island increased by 1,155, with 20 more deaths, the R.I. Department of Health said on Thursday.

Hospitalizations of COVID-19 patients in the state total 397, a decline from 405 one day prior. Of those hospitalized, 59 are in an intensive care unit and 40 are on a ventilator, both figures the same from one day prior.

Cases in the state total 96,591 to date, an increase of 1,128 from figures reported Wednesday, accounting for both the day-to-day increase, as well as data revisions for previous days.

Deaths due to the virus in Rhode Island total 1,910 to date.

There were 18,960 tests processed in the state Wednesday, with an overall positive rate of 6.1%. When excluding both repeat positive and repeat negative test results, the positive rate was 28.4%.

There have been 2.1 million tests administered in the state to date to 661,690 individuals.

The health department said that 28,603 initial doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in the state to date, as well as 1,103 second doses.
