R.I. COVID-19 cases rise by 154, with no new deaths

PROVIDENCE – Confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Rhode Island increased by 154, with no new deaths, the R.I. Department of Health said on Tuesday.

Hospitalizations in the state of COVID-19 patients total 37, a rise from 27 one day prior. Of those hospitalized, six are in intensive care units and five are on a ventilator.

The department said that there have been 110.8 new cases per 100,000 residents in the state in the past seven days, which the centers for Disease Control and Prevention define as “high transmission.”

There have been 659,914 individuals fully vaccinated in the state, as well as 1.33 million total COVID-19 vaccine doses administered.

There have been 2,740 deaths due to the virus in Rhode Island.

Confirmed COVID-19 cases in Rhode Island now total 154,985, a rise of 195 from figures reported Monday, accounting for the day-to-day increase as well as data revisions for previous days.

There were 4,409 tests processed on Monday with an overall positive rate of 3.5%. When excluding both repeat positive and repeat negative test results, the positive rate was 15%.

There have been 4.63 million tests administered in the state to 985,134 individuals.

The department also released its three weekly COVID-19 metrics Tuesday, with all three worsening week to week:

  • The positive rate of tests last week was 3%, a rise from 1.8% one week prior.
  • New hospital admissions of COVID-19 patients in the state totaled 34, a rise from 22 one week prior.
  • New cases per 100,000 residents totaled 105 last week, a rise from 55 one week prior.
