PROVIDENCE – The Rhode Island Foundation announced Wednesday that it has awarded $550,000 in grants to 24 animal welfare organizations across the Ocean State.
The foundation says the funding will support several services that the organizations offer. Among those services are providing reduced-cost veterinary care for pets of low-income households, preparing animals for adoption and rehabilitating injured wildlife.

Learn MoreAdrian Bonéy, program officer for the foundation’s Program for Animal Welfare, said in a statement that the grants support the care of animals in shelters, underwrite veterinary services and subsidize spay and neuter procedures for pets owned by low-income households, as well as preparing shelter animals for adoption and delivering humane education.
The grants range from $4,000 to $110,000. The organizations that received grants are:

- Friends of Central Falls Animals
- Friends of the Scituate Animal Shelter

- PawsWatch
- Pawtucket Animal Shelter
- Potter League for Animals
- Providence Animal Rescue League
- The Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals
- Rhode Island Veterinary Medical Association Companion Animal Foundation
