R.I. gas drops 4 cents, Mass. gas ticks down 1 cent this week

PROVIDENCE – The average price of self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline in Rhode Island declined 4 cents this week to $2.77 per gallon, 1 cent higher than the national average of $2.76 per gallon and 20 cents higher than this time last year, according to AAA Northeast Monday.

Prices ranged 36 cents from a low of $2.63 per gallon to a high of $2.99 per gallon.

“Gas prices are at their lowest level since back in the spring,” said Lloyd Albert, AAA Northeast senior vice president of public and government affairs, in a statement. “If the crude-oil market remains steady, prices in the short term will likely continue to fall.”

  • Midgrade gas averaged $3 per gallon this week, ranging from $2.79 to $3.13 per gallon
  • Premium unleaded averaged $3.20 per gallon, ranging from $2.99 to $3.39 per gallon
  • Diesel fuel averaged $3.23 per gallon, ranging from $3.10 to $3.64 per gallon

In Massachusetts, the average price of gas declined 1 cent this week to $2.79 per gallon, 3 cents above the national average and 32 cents higher than this time last year.

Prices ranged 57 cents, from a low of $2.52 per gallon to a high of $3.09 per gallon.

  • Midgrade gas averaged $3.10 per gallon, ranging from $2.85 to $3.49 per gallon
  • Premium gas averaged $3.25 per gallon, ranging from $2.93 to $3.59 per gallon
  • Diesel fuel averaged $3.20 per gallon, ranging from $2.99 to $3.39 per gallon
