PROVIDENCE – The average price of self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline in Rhode Island declined 1 cent to $2.29 per gallon this week, 2 cents below the national average of $2.31 per gallon and 30 cents lower than at this time last year, according to AAA Northeast Monday.
Prices in Rhode Island ranged 37 cents from $2.12 to $2.49 per gallon.

- Premium gas averaged $2.75 per gallon, ranging from $2.52 to $2.99 per gallon
- Diesel fuel averaged $3.03 per gallon, ranging from $2.85 to $3.11 per gallon
“Crude oil prices have continued their ascent in recent days, due to a growing belief that global supplies are tightening,” said Lloyd Albert, AAA Northeast senior vice president of public and government affairs. “The start of refinery maintenance season plus the increased demand that comes with milder weather could start to pull pump prices higher over the coming weeks.”
In Massachusetts, the average price of regular gas increased 1 cent to $2.35 per gallon this week, 4 cents higher than the national average and 15 cents lower than this time last year.
Prices in the Bay State ranged 88 cents, from $2.17 to $3.05 per gallon.
