R.I. gas prices dip 1 cent this week

PROVIDENCE – The average price of self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline in Rhode Island declined 1 cent this week to $2.49 per gallon, 15 cents lower than the national average of $2.64 per gallon, according to AAA Northeast Tuesday.

“The national gas price average has been gradually decreasing the past three weeks and we expect this trend to continue, barring any major industry or geopolitical events,” said Senior Vice President of AAA Public and Government Affairs Lloyd Albert in a statement. “But the real savings we’re seeing is when prices are compared to this same time last year. Drivers in some states are paying 40 cents less per gallon than they were last October.”

Last year at this time, prices in Rhode Island were 35 cents higher at $2.84 per gallon. Prices in Rhode Island ranged 34 cents from $2.35 to $2.69 per gallon this week.

  • Midgrade gas averaged $2.73 per gallon this week, ranging from $2.57 to $2.95 per gallon.
  • Premium gas averaged $2.91 per gallon, ranging from $2.77 to $3.05 per gallon.
  • Diesel fuel averaged $2.96 per gallon, ranging from $2.79 to $3.35 per gallon.

In Massachusetts, prices declined 2 cents this week to $2.50 per gallon, 14 cents lower than the national average. Last year at this time, prices were 34 cents higher at $2.84 per gallon.

Prices in the Bay State ranged 86 cents from $2.19 to $3.05 per gallon.

  • Midgrade gas averaged $2.78 per gallon, ranging from $2.52 to $3.09 per gallon.
  • Premium gas averaged $2.97 per gallon, ranging from $2.69 to $3.39 per gallon.
  • Diesel fuel averaged $2.94 per gallon, ranging from $2.73 to $3.29 per gallon.
