R.I. gas prices drop 1 cent, level with national average

PROVIDENCE – The average price of self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline in Rhode Island declined 1 cent this week to $2.81 per gallon, level with the national average and 23 cents higher than this time last year at $2.58 per gallon, according to AAA Northeast Monday.

Prices ranged 35 cents, from a low of $2.64 to a high of $2.99 per gallon.

“Just like the outside temperature, motorists are seeing prices cool off,” said Lloyd Albert, AAA Northeast senior vice president of public and government affairs, in a statement. “But these lower prices may not last. We expect that gas prices will likely start to increase as early as later this week, ahead of the Nov. 4 Iran sanctions announcement and the midterm elections.”

  • Midgrade gas averaged $3.12 this week, ranging from $2.97 to $3.29 per gallon
  • Premium gas averaged $3.30 this week, ranging from $3.14 to $3.43 per gallon
  • Diesel fuel averaged $3.24 this week, ranging from $3.14 to $3.64 per gallon

The average price of regular gas in Massachusetts remained unchanged this week at $2.80 per gallon, 1 cent lower than the national average and 35 cents higher than this time last year.

  • Midgrade gas averaged $3.07 this week, ranging from $2.79 to $3.29 per gallon
  • Premium gas averaged $3.22 this week, ranging from $2.97 to $3.49 per gallon
  • Diesel fuel averaged $3.22 this week, ranging from $3.05 to $3.45 per gallon
