PROVIDENCE – The average price of self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline in Rhode Island remained unchanged this week at $2.84 per gallon, 7 cents blow the national average and 20 cents higher than prices one year prior, according to AAA Northeast Tuesday.

Prices in Rhode Island ranged 41 cents, from $2.68 to $3.09 per gallon.

  • Midgrade gas averaged $3.11 this week, ranging from $2.99 to $3.39 per gallon
  • Premium gas averaged $3.31 this week, ranging from $3.19 to $3.49 per gallon
  • Diesel fuel averaged $3.23 this week, ranging from $3.10 to $3.31 per gallon

“Crude oil has priced higher amid concerns of global crude supply and geopolitical tensions, including pending sanctions with Iran and Venezuela’s unstable economy,” stated Lloyd Albert, AAA Northeast senior vice president of public and government affairs. “In much of the country this has resulted in increases at the gas pumps, but strong supplies have kept those higher prices from reaching our area, at least to this point.”

Regular gas prices in Massachusetts increased 1 cent to also average $2.84 per gallon this week, 7 cents lower than the national average. Last year at this time, prices were 29 cents lower at $2.55 per gallon.
