PROVIDENCE – The average price of self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline in Rhode Island remained unchanged this week at $2.86 per gallon, level with the national average and 4 cents lower than prices one year prior, according to AAA Northeast Monday.

“The move to more-stable gas prices indicates that supply and demand are potentially leveling out,” stated AAA Northeast Senior Vice President of Public and Government Affairs Lloyd Albert. “However, there are many factors that could quickly push up prices, including the impact of Chinese tariffs, a spike in demand or the volume of Memorial Day travel. Pump-price movements this week will indicate if motorists will continue to see stable gas prices or if this was just a one-week fad.”

Prices in the Ocean State ranged 30 cents, from $2.69 per gallon to $2.99 per gallon.

  • Midgrade gas averaged $3.12 per gallon this week, ranging from $3.04 to $3.19 per gallon
  • Premium gas averaged $3.31 per gallon, ranging from $3.24 to $3.39 per gallon
  • Diesel fuel averaged $3.11 per gallon, ranging from $2.99 to $3.45 per gallon

In Massachusetts, the average price of regular gas declined 4 cents to $2.80 per gallon this week, 6 cents lower than the national average. Prices were 1 cent lower at this time last year.
