PROVIDENCE – The average price of self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline in Rhode Island increased 7 cents this week to $2.36 per gallon, 3 cents below the national average of $2.39 per gallon and 20 cents lower than prices at this time last year, according to AAA Northeast Monday.
Prices in the Ocean State ranged 23 cents, from $2.26 to $2.49 per gallon.
- Midgrade gas averaged $2.67 this week, ranging from $2.56 to $2.79 per gallon
- Premium gas averaged $2.85, ranging from $2.76 to $2.99 per gallon
- Diesel fuel averaged $3.04, ranging from $2.85 to $3.13 per gallon
“Higher pump prices in more than 40 states have been supported by an increase in demand and a reduced gasoline supply,” stated Lloyd Albert, AAA Northeast senior vice president of public and government affairs. “Refineries are also gearing up for spring gasoline production and maintenance season, which also tightens supplies and could lead to higher prices.”
In Massachusetts, the average price of regular gas increased 1 cent to $2.36 per gallon, level with Rhode Island and 3 cents below the national average. The price of gas was 13 cents higher last year at this time at $2.49 per gallon.
Prices in the Bay State ranged 62 cents, from $2.17 to $2.79 per gallon.

- Premium gas averaged $2.84, ranging from $2.57 to $3.29 per gallon
- Diesel fuel in Massachusetts averaged $2.98, ranging from $2.79 to $3.29 per gallon
