PROVIDENCE – The average price of self-serve, regular, unleaded gasoline in Rhode Island declined 2 cents this week to $2.71 per gallon, level with the national average and 17 cents lower than prices at this time last year, according to AAA Northeast Monday.

Prices for regular gas ranged 30 cents from $2.59 to $2.89 per gallon.

  • Midgrade gas averaged $2.96 this week, ranging from $2.84 to $3.19 per gallon
  • Premium gas averaged $3.20 per gallon, ranging from $3.09 to $3.39 per gallon

“Prices are cheaper as demand saw a small dip on the week, even though overall demand remains robust for the summer,” said Diana Imondi, AAA Northeast manager of public affairs and traffic safety. “Most states have seen cheaper pump prices of a few pennies, and motorists can expect this trend to continue through the first part of August.”

In Massachusetts, the average price of regular gas also declined 2 cents, averaging $2.68 per gallon, 3 cents below the national average and 16 cents lower year over year. Regular gas prices ranged 60 cents in Massachusetts, from $2.39 to $2.99 per gallon.
