CRANSTON – Rhode Island’s seasonally adjusted unemployment in June was 4.3%, same as the previous month, the R.I. Department of Labor and Training said Thursday. The DLT says the number of unemployed Rhode Islanders in June was 25,500, up 400 from May and 10,700 from a year ago. Also, the number of employed residents was at 564,800 as of June, up 1,300 from the previous month and 6,700 more than June 2023, DLT said. Overall, the state’s labor force was 590,300 in June, up 1,700 from May and 17,400 from June 2023. The state’s nonfarm jobs in June totaled 511,200, a decrease of 700 from the revised May jobs figure of 511,900 and up 5,500 from June 2023, DLT says. These jobs exclude farming and some government, private and nonprofit workers. The number of private-sector jobs in Rhode Island was down 1,600 in June but up 4,100 from June 2023. Seasonally adjusted nonfarm payrolls in Rhode Island by sector in June:

Accommodation and food services: 50,500, a decrease of 600 since May and of 900 year over year.

Administrative and waste services: 31,000, an increase of 400 since May and of 2,200 year over year.

Arts, entertainment and recreation: 7,900, a decrease of 600 since May and of 100 year over year.

Construction: 21,600, an increase from 200 since May and the same as a year ago.

Educational services: 26,300, a decrease of 500 since May and of 1,000 year over year.

Finance and insurance: 28,800, an increase of 400 since May and of 100 year over year.

Government: 65,900, an increase of 900 from May and of 1,400 year over year.

Health care and social assistance: 86,100, an increase of 200 since May and of 4,500 year over year.

Information: 5,700, an increase of 100 from May but down 300 year over year.

Management of companies and enterprises: 10,600, same as May but down 300 year over year.

Manufacturing: 41,100, a decrease of 100 since May but up 500 year over year. Production workers in the sector earned $25.37 per hour in March, 15 cents more than May and up 78 cents from June 2023.

Professional, scientific and technical services: 30,200, down 500 since May but up 100 year over year.

Real estate, rental and leasing: 6,500, down 100 since May but the same year over year.
