PROVIDENCE – Rhode Island has one of the world's best resorts, one of the nation's best airports and eight of the top 25 hotels in New England, according to readers of Condé Nast Traveler.
The Weekapaug Inn in Westerly is ranked 35th among the world's 50 best resorts and No. 3 in New England, in the travel magazine’s Readers’ Choice Awards for 2024 released on Oct. 1.
"Nowadays, new-money yummy mummies with Ralph Lauren-attired banker hubbies and picture-perfect offspring attended by nannies join the throng, drawn by comfortable, quilt-laden suites and the promise of relaxation," Condé Nast said of the resort. "Excellent guided nature walks, golf, tennis, and fishing and boating expeditions in historic vessels can also be arranged."
Rhode Island T. F. Green International Airport in Warwick is recognized as the 7
th best airport in the U.S. and the best in New England. It’s the fifth consecutive year T.F. Green has been named as one of the nation's top 10 airports in the annual reader survey.
“Long favored by budget carriers as a less expensive alternative to Boston Logan, the airport has been growing steadily in recent years and is well-positioned to benefit from a resurgence in domestic air travel," according to Condé Nast.
T.F. Green was also recognized on Wednesday as a winner in the 2024 “USA Today 10Best Readers’ Choice” travel award contest, ranking 4th nationwide among small airports and first in New England.
The local hotel industry’s strong showing in the Condé Nast awards was led by Newport’s The Vanderbilt, Auberge Resorts Collection, coming in at No. 2 on the list of best hotels in New England.
The City by the Sea is also home to six other hotel award winners: Chanler at Cliff Walk, coming in at No. 6; Castle Hill Inn, No. 8; Brenton Hotel, No. 16; Hotel Viking, No. 22; Francis Malbone House, No. 24 and Hammetts Hotel, No. 25.
Providence’s The Beatrice is also on the list, ranking No. 13.
Joining the Weekapaug Inn among New England's top 20 resorts is Westerly's Ocean House, at No. 19.
