PROVIDENCE – Nonprofits in Rhode Island have secured $224,000 in grants from Walmart and the Walmart Foundation in the most recent cycle of funding, the Walmart Foundation announced Monday.
In the entirety of last year, Walmart & its charitable subsidiary awarded $1.33 million in grants and in-kind donations to non-profits and organizations in the state.

“Throughout the year, it is both enlightening and rewarding to connect with and support organizations that improving the lives of Rhode Island residents in so many ways,” said Chris Buchanan, Walmart Director of Public Affairs & State and Local Government Relations in New England.
“Amazing things are being done in Rhode Island and Walmart is committed to supporting the good work that goes on in the communities across this state that we live and work in,” Buchanan said.
Organizations receiving funding in the most recent cycle include:
RICAN-Rhode Island Center Assisting Those in Need (Charlestown): $28,000
Martin Luther King Community Center Inc. (Newport): $45,000
Providence Intown Churches (Providence): $41,000
Meals on Wheels of RI, Inc. (Providence): $40,000
The Salvation Army (Norwich): $70,000
