R.I. Resource Recovery appoints new executive director

JOHNSTON – The Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corp. has appointed Joseph Reposa as its new executive director. Reposa succeeds Mike OConnell, who will retire later this month after ten years of service, the company announced Wednesday in a press release.

Reposa joins RIRRC after having held executive and management positions in sales, information technology, and operations spanning environmental services and the retail industry. Most recently, Reposa was the general manager for waste management and vice president of marketing for Sears Holdings Corp.

“We are extremely excited to have Joseph as our new executive director,” remarked Michael F. Sabitoni, chairman of the board of commissioners for Resource Recovery. “I am confident that Joseph will take Resource Recovery into its next phase through thoughtful leadership, outreach, and collaboration.”

Resource Recovery is a quasi-public agency dedicated to providing Rhode Islanders with safe, environmentally compliant, clean, and cost-effective waste and recycling services. The agency operates the state’s materials recycling facility, leaf and yard compost, eco-depot, and central landfill, and provides free programs and services to help the community manage materials more sustainably.

As Executive Director, Reposa will be responsible for all facets of Resource Recovery’s operations, strategic direction, financial solvency, and long-term planning.

“I am looking forward to working with the Resource Recovery team, its partners and the communities across Rhode Island to continue to provide safe, environmentally responsible and sustainable solid waste services,” remarked Reposa. He will assume the executive director role effective June 19.
