R.I. tops nation in yearly growth rate for construction employment

PROVIDENCE – Rhode Island ranked No. 1 for largest percentage gain in state construction employment year over year in June according to the Associated General Contractors of America, based on figures from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Rhode Island construction employment rose 13.4 percent from June 2016, an increase of 2,400 to 20,300 construction jobs in June 2017.

Rhode Island added 200 construction jobs from May to June, a rise of 1 percent, which ranked No. 15 in the nation for largest percentage growth.

California’s construction employment increased more in numbers than any other state in June year over year, gaining 46,500 jobs to 818,400. Missouri construction employment underwent the largest year-over-year nominal decline in the nation, decreasing 3,100 jobs.

Washington, D.C., experienced the largest percentage decline year over year, falling 5.7 percent, accounting for 1,500 fewer construction jobs.
