Raimondo, DEM announce $210K in grants to local farmers, community groups

PROVIDENCE – Gov. Gina M. Raimondo joined the R.I. Department of Environmental Management and partners May 30 at the Statehouse to announce more than $210,000 in grants to local farmers and community groups to mark the 17th anniversary of Agriculture Day in Rhode Island.

Rhode Island’s green industries account for more than 15,000 jobs and contribute $2.5 billion to the economy, while the state’s food system supports another 60,000 jobs and more than 7,000 businesses, according to a DEM news release announcing the grants.

The Local Agriculture and Seafood Act grant program, now in its fifth year, supports efforts to strengthen food tourism and food-business incubation in the state, while assisting local farmers and seafood businesses with marketing.
