Red Sox give $10K to Children’s Friend

BOSTON – The Red Sox Foundation donated $10,000 to Children’s Friend at a recent Fenway Park ballgame as fans named the nonprofit their favorite charity.
The nonprofit helps children and their families. The award was presented to Children’s Friend Board Chairperson Martha Newcomb in a pre-game ceremony at Fenway.
The grant will fund the nonprofit’s summer learning and enrichment program, providing vulnerable children with consistent, safe, and fun educational activities over 10 weeks, said President and CEO David Caprio of Children’s Friend.
“I’ve always been a huge Red Sox fan,” Caprio said. “With this IMPACT award, I’m forever loyal to Boston and the fans of this legendary team.”
In April, the foundation challenged fans around New England to decide which non-profit organizations should receive an inaugural IMPACT (Inspiring More Philanthropy Across Charities Together) award. Three charitable organizations in each of the five New England states surrounding Massachusetts were eligible to win.
Children’s Friend supporters logged enough votes to put them in first place. Runners up were also named. In total, 15 organizations shared in $75,000 worth of IMPACT grants from the Red Sox Foundation.
