PROVIDENCE – Rhode Island will receive an additional $4.5 million for Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program after the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services decided to release an additional $609.4 million for the program nationwide, U.S. Sen. Jack F. Reed announced Monday.
The state had already been allocated $22.4 million, bringing to total to $26.9 million.

“This additional funding will provide an important measure of relief to many Rhode Islanders in need and some added budget certainty to community organizations distributing the assistance,” stated Reed.
The senator noted that there are nearly 35,000 Rhode Islanders helped by the program.
Last year, Rhode Island received $25.3 million in LIHEAP funds.
