An extra set of eyes and ears, with the training of a registered nurse. That’s the idea behind Personalized Care Coordination LLC, a new business that is aimed at Rhode Island elderly residents who live in their homes and need help coordinating medical care.
Launched by Michelle Kissinger over the summer, the small Charlestown-based business provides personal advocacy services, such as medication management, being a primary contact, chronic-disease management and education.
Kissinger, who works full time as a nurse for an outpatient primary care network, founded her business after she realized how many people need the additional help in managing care.
Families who live far away often find it impossible to help their relatives. “They just need another set of eyes and ears in the home to oversee what’s going on,” she said. “I do a full intake and get a good feel for what’s happening. If there are services needed, I coordinate all of that.”
Kissinger, who received her nursing education at the University of Rhode Island, has 10 years of experience, most of it in care coordination.
“I’m that person’s advocate. I’m their point person,” she said.
