Report: Providence ranks among most expensive student rents in world

PROVIDENCE – Providence is the sixth-most expensive place for students to find accommodations in the world, according to a report published by Student.com.

The report, called Cities in Focus: 2018 Global Student Accommodation Indicator, used rent booked by 12,000 users of Student.com’s services and ranked 125 cities. The rankings were based on the average weekly rent paid by students across the globe from November 2016 and October 2017.

Providence’s $278 per week average ranked behind only three American cities, Boston (No. 1 at $464), New York City (No. 2 at $402) and Seattle (No. 5 at $281).

London (No. 3 at $339) and Sydney, Australia (No, 4 at $305) rounded out the top five.

The site said the average weekly rent for students in the U.S. was $204. The global average was found to be $214.

Albacete, Spain, was ranked the No. 1 least expensive of the cities in the report at $60 per week. Tallahasee, Fla., was found to be the least expensive U.S. city, with weekly rent in the report at $109.
