
PROVIDENCE – Rhode Island had the highest percentage of consumers with access to wired broadband for $60 of less in the nation in the third quarter, according to a report from Broadbandnow.com.
Rhode Island saw 89% of consumers with access to broadband internet at that price, a decline of one basis point from the second quarter. The state with the second highest percentage in the third quarter was North Dakota at 78% of consumers.

Nationwide, the report found that 52% of consumers had access to $60 or less broadband internet.
In Massachusetts, it was found that 43% of consumers had access to $60 or less broadband. However, 90% of consumers in the Bay State had access to high-speed internet.
The report used publicly available data from over 2,000 internet-service providers. Wired broadband was defined as cable, fiber and DSL technologies that had a minimum download speed of 25 megabits per seconds and a minimum upload speed of 3Mbps.
The report also found that the percentage of consumers with access to high-speed internet, or at least 500Mbps, in Rhode Island was 66%. The state with the highest percentage access to high-speed internet was Delaware, where 97% of consumers had access to such service. The national rate of access for consumers to high-speed internet was said to be 67%.
