Report: R.I. ranked No. 2 in U.S. for Dec. construction-employment growth

PROVIDENCE – Rhode Island’s year-over-year construction-employment growth percentage ranked No. 2 in the nation behind only Nevada’s 12.8 percent, according to the Associated General Contractors of America Tuesday.

Rhode Island construction employment increased 11.3 percent year over year in December, 2,100 more jobs than one year prior, to 20,700 jobs. Construction employment declined 200 jobs from November.

Massachusetts’ year-over-year construction-employment growth in December ranked No. 17 in the nation at 5.7 percent, accounting for an increase of 8,500 jobs to 156,400 jobs.

New Hampshire had the third-highest year-over-year construction growth in December at 5.3 percent, ranking No. 20 in the nation.

Vermont’s construction-employment performance ranked No. 44 in the nation and fourth in New England with a 0.6 percent year-over-year decline in construction employment in December. Maine was one spot lower at No. 45 with a 0.7 percent decline.

Connecticut’s construction-employment performance was the worst in New England and ranked No. 48 in the country at a 3.3 percent decline year over year in December. Iowa ranked last in the nation with a 9.2 percent decline.
