PROVIDENCE – Bulk-candy vendor CandyStore.com’s report on Tuesday may change the way we see our fellow countrymen. The findings? America’s most popular jelly bean flavor is buttered popcorn.
The report comes on ahead of National Jelly Bean Day, which will take place on April 22 and just ahead of Easter, which falls on April 1, this year. CandyStore.com reported that, each year, Americans eat approximately 16 billion jelly beans on Easter.
The report also found America’s second favorite flavor is black licorice.
The company said that the findings were based on 10 years of jelly bean sales data and SurveyMonkey and Facebook polls of 12,000 candy customers.
In Rhode Island, candy customers were a bit more traditional, with blueberry as the top flavor in the Ocean State. The blueberry jelly bean was created for Ronald Reagan’s inauguration, and Jelly Belly supplied jelly beans to the White House during the eight years Reagan held the presidency (though his favorite flavor was licorice, not blueberry.)
The blueberry-flavored jelly bean placed No. 13 for favorite flavor among the survey’s U.S. respondents.
The runner up for the Ocean State’s favorite flavor was cinnamon, with “pink strawberry” taking third place.
