REVIEW: Brown students happy, PC students drinkers

NEW YORK – Rhode Island’s higher education facilities received a mixed bag of news this week, as the Princeton Review announced its newest book of top colleges on Aug. 21.
Both Brown University and Bryant University faired well in the surveys, which asked students 80 questions about their campus. Brown came in second in the “Happiest students” category, No. 5 for “Best college radio station,” sixth for “Toughest to get into,” and No. 13 in “Best college theatre.”
Bryant University placed ninth for “Best career/job placement services.”
But for Providence College and the University of Rhode Island, the news wasn’t as rosy.
Providence College was the No. 1 college in terms of homogeneous student population category. It ranked eighth for “Little race/class interaction (best students of different backgrounds)” and came in fourth in “Lots of hard liquor” category.
It also ranked No. 19 in the “Everyone plays intramural sports” category.
The University of Rhode Island also had a poor showing in the review, coming in No. 9 for “Dorms like dungeons” and No. 10 “Students (almost) never study”.
The 80-question survey asked students to rate their school on several categories including, school’s academics/administration, campus life, student body, campus political leanings, gay community acceptance and best classroom experience.
