Rhode Island Foundation announces availability of medical research grants

The Rhode Island Foundation has invited Rhode Island junior medical researchers to apply for funds to support research projects. Grants will be available for general medical research as well as more specific areas such as infectious diseases, cerebral accidents, cancer, heart disease and diabetes.

As many as 10 grants of $10,000 each will be awarded for laboratory, clinical and population-based research. The funds are intended to serve as seed money or be used for pilot projects so that junior researchers may achieve permanent funding for their research thorugh other sources.

The grants, to be distributed in March 2002, are made possible through eight separate endowment funds established over time at the Rhode Island Foundation and designated for medical research.
