Rhode Island gas prices resume climb, jump 3 cents in the last week

PROVIDENCE – After one week of relief, gasoline prices have risen in Rhode Island, AAA Southern New England reported Monday, noting that prices have increased five out of the past six weeks.
The auto club’s November 8 survey found the average price of self-serve, unleaded regular at Ocean State stations was $2.91 per gallon, up 3 cents from last week.
Gasoline for December delivery lost 83 cents, or 0.4 percent, to $2.1717 a gallon at 9:45 a.m. on the New York Mercantile Exchange, the first drop in five days. Prices added 3.6 percent last week. The December gasoline crack spread – the difference between simultaneously bought and sold crude oil contracts – narrowed 19 cents to $4.52 a barrel, said Bloomberg News.
In its survey, AAA found prices in Rhode Island ranging from $2.81 to $3.01 per gallon for unleaded regular. At $2.91, the average price per gallon in Rhode Island is 6 cents higher than the average price nationwide.
A year ago, gas prices in Rhode Island stood at $2.69 per gallon, according to AAA.
Prices also rose in Massachusetts. The AAA survey found the average price of self-serve, unleaded regular was $2.82 per gallon in the Bay State, up 3 cents from last week but 3 cents below the national average.
At stations in Rhode Island this week, the survey found average self-serve prices of $3.03 per gallon for midgrade unleaded, $3.15 for premium unleaded gasoline, and $3.15 for diesel.
