MANAGERS AT Rhode Island Medical Imaging Inc. design their internal wellness programs with it in mind that employees are as important and valued as the patients they serve.

RIMI radiologists and support staff include 400 professionals providing CT, CAT scan and MRI services at 12 locations, said Josh Varone, RIMI’s chief human resources officer. The programs’ purpose, he said, is to improve health and also “to increase employees’ awareness of how they are valued.”

A Healthy Thought: ‘We want to help our employees understand how valued and important they are to the organization.’

The company’s wellness committee has been busy in recent years building fitness services and planning projects to bolster healthier eating. RIMI opened a gym at its Warwick headquarters in September 2019 and offers fitness classes online. Varone said RIMI will invest more later this year or in 2021 to create guided and personalized aerobic workouts.

A future project will be to give out branded lunch boxes with informational cards. Such information will compare the costs and calories of a lunch meal bought from a fast-food restaurant to similar meals made with store-bought items.

“[The lunch box information] an education mechanism,” Varone said. “Wellness is not just about equipment. It is also about education.”
