CHICAGO – Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Connecticut all ranked among the Top 10 states for home-inspection laws in the American Society of Home Inspectors’ annual review of policies nationwide, the National Association of Realtors reported today.
No. 1 was Louisiana, which has ranked first since it passed a strong inspection law after Hurricane Katrina, the NAR said. It is one of 28 states that have enacted some sort of home-inspection regulation in the past decade.
Rounding out the Top 10 were, in order: New Jersey, Arizona, Texas, Massachusetts, Connecticut, North Carolina, Arkansas, Indiana and No. 10 Rhode Island.
California has ranked last for the past two years – followed by North Dakota and Georgia – because several provisions of its inspections law are deemed unenforceable.
