PROVIDENCE – Gasoline prices in Rhode Island increased 19 cents per gallon over the past seven days, smashing last week’s short-lived record high, said AAA Southern New England in its weekly fuel-price report.
The auto group’s April 21 survey of local gas stations found self-serve, regular unleaded gas averaging $3.439 per gallon across the state. (The previous weekly survey’s record price of $3.249 – set April 14 – was 4 cents above the previous Ocean State record of $3.239, set in 2005 in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Nationwide, the average self-serve price of regular unleaded gas rose 13 cents to $3.509 per gallon, or 7 cents above this week’s average price in Rhode Island
Prices for self-serve regular at local stations had a 19-cent range, from a low of $3.329 to a high of $3.519 per gallon. Wider ranges were seen for other grades of fuel, which had average self-serve prices of $3.569 for midgrade unleaded and $3.669 for premium.
The average self-serve price of diesel fuel shot up another 11 cents over the past week to $4.379 per gallon.
