PROVIDENCE – Dr. Latha Sivaprasad has been appointed senior vice president and chief medical officer at Rhode Island Hospital, effective Sept. 1, 2013.
Sivaprasad, an internal medicine physician, comes to Rhode Island Hospital from Beth Israel Medical Center in New York.
In her new position, Sivaprasad will be responsible for graduate medical education and medical staff affairs as well as enhancing quality, safety, effectiveness and efficiency of health care delivery, hospital officials said. She will serve as a physician voice in providing strategic direction for the hospital on issues related to medical staff growth, educational program structure, clinical program development and broader academic medical center priorities.
She succeeds Dr. John B. Murphy, who now serves as executive vice president for physician affairs for Lifespan, of which Rhode Island Hospital is a founding partner.
“As health care reform takes shape, we must work tirelessly to ensure we deliver the highest quality patient care, the safest care, and the best patient experience,” said Dr. Timothy J. Babineau, president of Rhode Island Hospital, and president and chief executive officer of Lifespan. “Dr. Sivaprasad’s work with quality, safety and the patient experience are a perfect fit for the goals we have set for ourselves, and I am confident that her clinical experience, leadership qualities and hands-on work ethic will provide tremendous benefit to Rhode Island Hospital, our staff and our patients.”
